MLA Mohan Maaji is the new and the first Bharatiya Janata Party Chief Minister of Odisha. Kanak Bhardhan Singh Deo and Pravati Paredha will be Deputy Chief Ministers. The Chief Minister of Orissa was selected at the BJP Legislature Party meeting, where Maaji, a tribal leader, was picked by Rajnath Singh and Bhupendra Yadav for the post. BJP had ruled the state as an alliance partner of the BJD in 2000 and 2004. This is the first time that the party will form the government on its own in Orissa. BJP stormed to power in the state on its own for the first time by winning 78 out of 147 seats. Mohan Charan Maaji won the Keonjar seat with a margin of around 87,815 votes.
